TAPAK: Urban Street Dining parks up in PJ

More than 1,000 food lovers were spoilt with choices of more than one hundred dishes consisting of local and unique fusions from 20 food truck operators, when TAPAK: Urban Street Dining officially opened at Amcorp Mall Outdoor Car Park, in Petaling Jaya on Friday.

Transforming underutilised parking bays into a social space, TAPAK PJ is an area of approx. 10,000 square feet and able to accommodate about 600 people at a time, complete with facilities such as comfortable dining areas, retractable tents, wash basin, toilets and surau, and live performances. The area is also decorated with amber strings of globe light bulbs hanging over the chairs and tables to create an enchanting alfresco atmosphere.

Speaking to the media after launching TAPAK PJ, Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, Mayor of Petaling Jaya said, “Establishment of TAPAK PJ is an initiative that indirectly induce the efforts in developing food truck entrepreneurs in Petaling Jaya. It is an exemplary of effective partnership between local authority and private sector to support the food truck industry and creating social spaces to cater public needs.” He hopes TAPAK PJ will follow all the regulations that have been set by MBPJ and to give their full cooperation in order to improve the Smart Truck business.

Syed Izmir Syed Amir, Co-founder and Director of TAPAK Urban Street Dining said, “Food truck is not a trend but it’s the future.” He added establishment of TAPAK PJ is in line with their mission to establish more social spaces that nexus food lovers and food trucks to experience the urban street dining.

Mamamia Food Truck owner, Ms. May who has been running her food truck business at TAPAK KL in Jalan Ampang for the last two years said, “TAPAK offers us the venue to operate our food truck business without the hassle of pulling the crowd and issues on permitting from local authority. With TAPAK, we have since grown our business to a more stable recurring income. Having a second TAPAK food truck park will definitely give us the opportunity to serve more customers, especially people of PJ.”

From Mexican burritos to local favourite Nasi Lemak, TAPAK PJ is expected to welcome a rotating line-up of more than 20 food trucks including Babaritos, Shake That Coco, First Order Mango truck, and Ayam Goreng Kunyit Mat Rock.

Interested food truck owners are welcomed to reserve their spot at TAPAK PJ or KL through an integrated booking platform known as KAPITA.
